How to make learning music fun! A resource for teachers and parents

The objectives of Music Waves lessons:

Teachers,  your main two objectives to focus on in all coursework planning are:

  1. To grow the kids’ LOVE of music
  2. To achieve REAL PROGRESS

At this time, I am encouraging teachers to:

  • Lean toward more therapeutic teaching approaches over directive teaching approaches
  • Ask questions. Be more interactive.
  • A slightly higher ratio of Student choice songs/ Pop songs makes a child love music, which in-turn drives them toward deeper, self-directed learning.
  •  Teachers Use Flashcards and Whiteboard games – this is great opportunity to get your note literacy up!

  1. Progressive Book 1 Absolute Beginner level:

i) Note and Rhythm Games 40% of the time:

ii) Structured book 30% of the time: Progressive book 1 

iii) Pop songs  30%: of the time

2. Progressive Book 2

i) Note/Rhythm/Theory Games 30% of time

ii) Structured Book: 40%  Progressive Book 2 Abridged Copy for those waiting on book

iii) Pop Songs 30%

3. BOOK 3 Level

i) Note and Rhythm Games 30% of the time:

ii) Structured book 40% of the time: Beginners Book 3 Abridged copy  

iii) Pop songs  30%: of the time

4. Preliminary Grade Level

i) Note/Theory games 20% of time

ii) If doing an Exam: Prelimlimary AMEB songs 80% of lesson time.  If not doing an exam 30% of time.

If not doing as exam,  still teach AMEB songs. Not to perfection, but to equip your student with critical Board of Syllabus approved skills and competency

iii) Pop Songs

5. Grade 1 Level

i) Note/Theory games 20% of time

ii) If doing an Exam: Grade 1 AMEB songs 80% of lesson time.  If not doing an exam 30% of time.

iii) Pop Songs

6. Grade 2 Level

i) Note/Theory games 20% of time

ii) If doing an Exam: Grade 2 AMEB songs 80% of lesson time.  If not doing an exam 30% of time.

iii) Pop Songs

7. Grade 3 Level

i) Note/Theory games 20% of time

ii) If doing an Exam: Grade 3 AMEB songs 80% of lesson time.  If not doing an exam 30% of time.

iii) Grade 3 Pop Songs

7. Grade 4 Level

i) Note/Theory games 20% of time

ii) If doing an Exam: Grade 4 AMEB songs 80% of lesson time.  If not doing an exam let the student poick and print the songs they want from below!

iii) Pop Songs

Grade 5 Level

i) Note/Theory games 20% of time

ii) If doing an Exam: Grade 5 AMEB songs 80% of lesson time.  If not doing an exam let the student poick and print the songs they want from below!
